Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I OR SOMEONE ELSE NEEDS EMERGENCY HELP FROM THE RESCUE SQUAD?
Dial 911 immediately! The 911 Operator will assign the closest rescue squad to your location.

HOW MAY I BECOME A MEMBER OF THE FREDERICKSBURG RESCUE SQUAD?
To Become A Member you must complete our Membership Application and successfully pass our background check and membership vote. The application is presented to our membership during our monthly Business Meeting, the first Tuesday of each month. “We’re Proud of Our History, Join our Tradition Today!”

DO I NEED TO LIVE OR WORK IN FREDERICKSBURG TO VOLUNTEER WITH THE FREDERICKSBURG RESCUE SQUAD?

Absoulty Not! Many of our members reside in surrounding counties such as Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, Orange, Prince William and even Fairfax and Richmond, but volunteer their time in Fredericksburg. Many travel to Richmond, Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland for their full-time jobs.

DO I NEED TO BE A CERTIFIED EMT TO JOIN THE FREDERICKSBURG RESCUE SQUAD?
No. FRS welcomes anyone with an interest in Emergency Medical Services who wants to volunteer in our community. After joining our squad, we will provide free EMT and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Training for you. We will also provide EVOC Training for those members who wish to only drive our units. Various other levels of training are also available to you.

DOES YOUR SQUAD ALLOW PEOPLE TO “RIDE-A-LONG?”

Yes, our Ride-A-Long Program provides an environment in which the citizen, potential member or EMS student can experience the realism and knowledge of EMS and gain a better understanding of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad and its volunteer members. This can be achieved through communication, hands-on experience and observation. Participants are permitted to ride one time per quarter.

MAY I STILL VOLUNTEER EVEN IF I DON’T HAVE A DESIRE TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCY CALLS?

Absolutely. The mission of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad’s Support Group is to provide essential “24/7 Auxiliary-Type Services and Support” to the volunteer members of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad. These vital services are particularly necessary when squad members are on-scene of extended calls such as major catastrophes, fires, search & rescues, etc. Additionally, the Support Group renders non-EMS assistance to the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad such as but not limited to, promoting squad morale & welfare; assisting with special events; preparing and serving squad meals; and other supporting services. No special skills or talents are necessary; the only requirement is simply a desire to help others…

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO JOIN THE FREDERICKSBURG RESCUE SQUAD?
There is no cost to join our squad and we provide free training and uniforms. We only ask for you to donate your time and talent by becoming a volunteer in your community. Likewise, there is no cost to join our Support Group.
